WASHINGTON (SBG) - House Republicans say they will now conduct their own investigation into the January 6 riot after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi kicked out two GOP congressmen who were chosen to be on a bipartisan panel. Pelosi rejected Indiana Congressman Jim Banks and Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan.

"With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these members, I must reject the recommendations of representative Banks and Jordan to the select committee,” said Pelosi in a statement.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called Pelosi’s move “unprecedented.”

“Speaker Pelosi has taken the unprecedented step of denying the minority party’s picks for the select committee on January 6. "This represents something that has not happened in the House before for a select committee ... it's an egregious abuse of power. Pelosi has broken this institution,” said McCarthy.

Rep. Jim Jordan said that he believes Pelosi doesn’t want Republicans asking the “fundamental question.”

“That fundamental question is, why wasn't there proper security presence that day?” said Rep. Jordan to The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat. “It's not like we didn't know there was a rally in town.”

Rep. Jordan says that Pelosi is the only one who can answer that question.

“This just shows the politics behind it,” said Rep. Jordan. What else are they going to talk about? Oh, let's bash President Trump again. They've done that for five years. That seems to be the only thing that Democrats are capable of talking about.”

Congresswoman Liz Cheney agreed with Pelosi.

“Rhetoric that we have heard from the Minority Leader is disingenuous. The attack on this building, on January 6 was the worst attack on this Capitol, the American people deserve to know what happened. The people who did this must be held accountable,” said Rep. Cheney.

But Rep. Jordan says that people are being held accountable.

“There are like 500 people who've been prosecuted for breaking the law,” said Rep. Jordan.
