Journalist Glenn Greenwald appeared today before the House Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law holds a hearing entitled, “Reviving Competition, Part 2: Saving the Free and Diverse Press.” Mr. Greenwald testified about the inherent dangers of Big Tech arbitrarily controlling speech, and the ideologically aligned media looking the other way.
One of the examples Greenwald uses to highlight the alignment is how Big Tech suppressed the New York Post and their factually evidenced and well documented Hunter Biden story; and how the aligned media apparatus then supported that silencing. In essence, the institutions of the U.S. government are collapsing; the institutions of communication technology are advancing censorship without oversight; and the institutions of the Fourth Estate are completely compromised.
A specific example of what Glenn Greenwald describes is below:

Glen Greenwald resigned from The Intercept, which he helped found, because the editorial board at his own creation insisted on editing out some of his unapproved speech. He resigned and went to Substack. Apparently that is where journalists in the wilderness are going now to escape editorial suppression/oppression.

right now, he’s focusing on what really matters: censorship and the loss of independence of journalists to publish completely objective works. He is also focused on the surveillance/police state. Note: I personally WARNED Glenn about his relationship with intercept and it’s owner/creator, Pierre Omidyar. I told him any kind of liberty and freedom he was ALLOWED to operate within would eventually get starched. I think at the time, he was desperate for sponsors and the Intercept had deep pockets. It’s very difficult to make a living without a decent sponsor. These are the realities for journalists. It’s expensive not simply because of the cost of living for the one, but all of the costs that swell up….travel….getting the interviews and the materials do cost money…there is a bit of “contracting” involved to incentivize sources (a reality). All of that worked out pretty well up to the point where Glen began publishing real facts about the Trump Administration that was not orange man bad….actions against him to censor him, are directly related to his reporting that contradicted the wall street and ny city “handlers” narratives.
In a sense, this is pretty good news for Glen. When the radicals drive you out and silence you, you know you are right over the target and hitting homeruns on your professional work.

The “Fourth Estate” is a European construct (the “First” being “Clergy”, the “Second”, “Nobility”, the “Third”, “Commoners”, and the “Fourth” the “press”).
J-schools, especially top-tier Journalism programs, teach that the Fourth Estate is the “final check” in our system of checks and balances.
Neither of these two truisms obtain today. In fact, the “press” anointing itself as a fourth vested instrument of political power on France in the early 19th Century was a joke and is truly a farce today notwithstanding their primary function as serving up agitprop on a 24/7 basis.
And, since the tricameral American institutions of governance have imploded, our “Fourth Estate” is a “check” that simply cannot pretend any impartiality. Heck, they’ve been teaching journos to appear to cloak opinion and propaganda in both-sides-of-the-story-clothes for decades.
A Fifth Estate needs to rise up and champion the cause of the Third Estate, or the Third Estate will rise up on their own. The latter eventuality is highly troublesome. But I don’t see the former option on the horizon.
I wish I had better news. The Constitution was written for better days and nobler governance than seem to have overtaken our nation now.

Glenn Greenwald is that rare journalist who believes in integrity despite the politics. He is a far-left journalist I trust despite his philosophical leanings because he is so honest. You need to subscribe to his substack site because an honest journalist deserves our support.

Matt Taibbi is another leftist journalist who is on Substack, who owns up to his political leanings but shines a light on what’s wrong in main stream media nowdays. Agree about Glen Greenwald and 9/11. I used to print out every article he wrote and put it in a binder to read while on the audit trail. Mr. Greenwald may have been the very individual whose writings created the mentality I had and still have today when I read “news.”
Thanks to Glen I was able to say to my “editors” on audit reports, “we can’t include what you changed in the report because it isn’t supported the work papers. It’s your opinion.” Oh, the arguments that ensued.

Greenwald is a liberal worth fighting for. IMO there are two possibilities that could happen. One is the obvious our financial system collapses. And as you know that won’t be pretty.

I remember the patriotism after 9/11. I cannot see that happening again, ever again in today’s environment. I can’t military or LE that want to be on the frontlines.
