Fox News poll: Trump approval hits new high in middle of coronavirus pandemic

.

President Trump’s job approval rating is at a record high in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic that has shut down large swaths of the country.

Forty-nine percent of registered voters approve of Trump’s performance as president, which is up from 48% two weeks ago and 47% at the end of February, according to the latest Fox News poll.

Forty-nine percent of voters disapprove of Trump, representing only the third time in the history of Fox News polling that the disapproval number is less than 50%.

The polling also shows that 89% of Republicans support the job he is doing.

When it comes to Trump’s response to the coronavirus specifically, more than half of the country, 51%, supports his actions. His approval rating falls behind both Drs. Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx, members of the White House coronavirus task force who show approval ratings at 80% and 62%, respectively.

The poll took a deeper look at the coronavirus response and concluded that the country is more satisfied with the job the state governments are doing than the federal government and also wish the federal government had acted faster.

The poll was based on interviews conducted between April 4 and 7 using a random national sample of 1,107 registered voters; 239 of the interviews took place via landlines and 868 via cellphone. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

As of Friday, the coronavirus has infected over 475,000 people in the United States and has been associated with about 16,700 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
