A bill making its way through the Tennessee General Assembly would ban people convicted of sex trafficking from getting a commercial driver's license (CDL) for life.

The Senate Transportation and Safety Committee recommended the measure for passage on Wednesday.

SB 0115/HB 0116, introduced by Sen. Ferrell Haile (R-Gallatin) and Rep. Johnny Garrett (R-Goodlettsville), "disqualifies for life persons convicted of trafficking for a commercial sex act from obtaining a commercial driver license."

The bill would also requires a "lifetime suspension" of a CDL for people convicted of trafficking for a commercial sex act.

A CDL is needed to drive commercial motor vehicles like tractor trailers, passenger buses and more.

Lawmakers in the transportation committee moved the measure forward with a vote of 9-0. It's slated to be heard in the House Calendar & Rules Committee on Thursday.
