Former Vice President Mike Pence was spotted Wednesday in the territory of St. Croix, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean, the island’s administrator said.
St. Croix Administrator Sammuel Sanes confirmed the political figure’s visit to the tropical retreat, his first visit to the island since October 2017.
Pence and his wife, former second lady Karen Pence, are couch surfing in the Hoosier State, Indiana GOP operatives told Business Insider.
“He doesn’t have a home. He doesn’t have anywhere to live,” an adviser to former President Donald Trump told Business Insider.
The former vice president’s political future also remains uncertain. Acquaintances in his home state of Indiana speculated that their former governor might consider a bid for higher office.
“I doubt very much whether Mike Pence is going to run for another elected office other than president, but he will do the variety of things you need to do to remain active within the Republican Party,” Leslie Lenkowsky, an emeritus professor at Indiana University, told the Republic, the local paper of Columbus, Indiana. “I would really be looking eight years out to see his next move.”
Whatever the Pences’ long-term plans may be, the former governor told a crowd greeting the Indianan home that his immediate plans involve a return to his roots.
“I’ve already promised [my wife] Karen we’ll be moving back to Indiana come this summer,” he told supporters on Jan. 21. “There’s no place like home.”
