A 60-feet tall Gundam robot took its first steps as part of an early test walk in Japan last week.

The life-sized robot is inspired and designed after the fictional manned robot RX-78-2 Gundam, which was seen in the 1979 anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. it was created by anime legend Yoshiyuki Tomino and Nippon Sunrise studio.

The 60-feet Gundam robot has been created at Yokohama's Gundam factory as a major tourist attraction.

"At Gundam Factory Yokohama, which will be established at Yamashita Pier, in addition to allowing visitors to see a life-sized 18m-tall Gundam move, we will also be able to share with them, and let them experience, the development processes up until the point where it is ready to move," the Gundam Factory website says.

The video shows the giant robot leaning forward while two engineers on a crane work on it. Later, it moves its right leg in a walking motion before the engineers make some more changes.

As seen in the video, the robot is still without a head, which means there is a lot of work to be done before it is unveiled to the world.

The video shared by tech and robot blogger Michael Overstreet has now received over 9 lakh views on YouTube.

According to reports, the Gundam factory hand planned to unveil the robot between July and August this year. However, the unveiling was indefinitely postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

"We have made the difficult decision to cancel the Special Experience preview event scheduled to begin this July and postpone our grand opening scheduled for October 2020. We expect to have our grand opening within the year. Details will be announced as available,” Gundam factory said in a statement.

“This decision was made to ensure the health and safety of our fans and employees in response to the worldwide spread of Covid-19,” the statement adds.
