Nigel Farage quits LBC radio show amid backlash over Black Lives Matter comments

Nigel Farage is leaving LBC with immediate effect, the radio station has announced.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: “Nigel Farage’s contract with LBC is up very shortly and, following discussions with him, Nigel is stepping down from LBC with immediate effect.

“We thank Nigel for the enormous contribution he has made to LBC and wish him well.”

It follows a backlash over his comments about the Black Lives Matter organisation.

After protests erupted in the UK over the death of George Floyd in America, Mr Farage claimed a “new form of the Taliban was born in the UK” and described Black Lives Matter as ”a far-left Marxist organisation that wants to abolish the police and dismantle capitalism”.

The former Ukip and Brexit Party leader had been a regular presenter on the station.

Mr Farage has regularly courted controversy as both a presenter and politician.

But his friendship with Donald Trump help secure the station an interview with the US president last year.

The Nigel Farage Show​ was broadcast five times a week, most recently on Wednesday.
