Chicago's mayor Lightfoot is busing migrants to nearby Burr Ridge without informing the mayor

They hypocrisy here is pretty astounding. As Karen pointed out last week, when the first buses full of migrants sent arrived in Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot called Texas Gov. Greg Abbott an inhuman, unpatriotic racist. She even lashed out at the bus companies who she said were “complicit in this indignity.”

And when a second busload of migrants arrived in her city a few days later, Mayor Lightfoot once again lashed out, denouncing the lack of “coordination and cooperation.”

“My frustration comes from the actions of the governor of Texas.” Lightfoot said. “There could be a level of coordination and cooperation, but he chooses to to do none of those things and instead tries to send human beings — not cargo, not freight — human beings across the country to an uncertain destination.”

Due to the lack of communication, Lightfoot said she is unsure of how many more migrants to expect moving forward.

In short, why don’t you at least call and tell me when people are arriving so I can prepare for it. Just today, Gov. Pritzker echoed those comments:

“What the governor of Texas is doing is disgusting and it needs to stop,” Pritzker said. “It shouldn’t be that the governor of Texas is taking these people and treating them like cattle, treating them like property, putting them on busses and sending them wherever he wants to send them.”

And yet, several local news outlets are reporting today that the same migrants who arrived from Texas on buses last week are now being bused out of the sanctuary city of Chicago and into the nearby suburb of Burr Ridge. What’s more, the migrants were moved without so much as a phone call to the mayor of Burr Ridge.

“I am concerned neither the village administrator nor I were told about this,” Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso told WGN. “We want to know: Why Burr Ridge?”…

Chicago is a so-called sanctuary city and so is Cook County. Local officials have passed laws meant to protect immigrants from deportation. However, the portion of Burr Ridge where many of the migrants are staying is actually in DuPage County.

Mayor Lightfoot is in Washington, DC today and her office didn’t respond to a request for comment. But a spokesperson for Gov. Pritzker gave a statement to WGN9 which attacked the mayor of Burr Ridge for complaining about the very thing Mayor Lightfoot complained about just a few days ago, i.e. not be given the courtesy of a heads up.

The state has a prior relationship with the hotel being used in the suburbs and their staff has done amazing work welcoming refugees and asylum seekers before, so it is interesting that local officials are choosing this specific instance to gripe to the press about this specific group of asylum seekers that consists of about 30 families. Gov. Pritzker has made it clear that Illinois is welcoming state and xenophobia has no home here.

So it’s racist to bus migrants to Chicago without prior coordination and it’s also racist to complain about Chicago busing those same migrants to a suburban town without prior coordination. If that doesn’t make any sense to you, clearly you’re not an elected Democrat.
