On Friday, the Canadian government designated the right-wing Three Percenters as a terrorist organization, adding the group to its list of terrorist entities.

According to Global News, the government argued that the group has an active presence within Canadian borders and could threaten national security.

The Three Percenters are named after the unproven theory that only three percent of colonials fought against the British during the Revolutionary War but achieved liberty for all. More than 480 individuals have been charged in connection with Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6 At least 26 of those charged have been part of far-right groups including the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and the Three Percenters. The Three Percenters are considered to have also been responsible for a foiled plot across the border to kidnap Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Three other entities were also added to Canada's terrorist list on Friday, including another group called Aryan Strikeforce. The latest additions mean there are now 77 terrorist entities listed under the Criminal Code.

Personal assets can be forfeited and bank accounts can be frozen on suspicion of activity supporting any of the designated terrorist organizations. Anyone belonging to such groups can be blocked from entering Canada.

Bill Blair, the Canadian Minister of Public Safety, said via press statement: "Recent events should remove any doubts about the serious threat posed by ideologically motivated violent extremism."

"Intolerance and hate have no place in our society and the government of Canada will continue to do all we can to keep Canadians safe from all threats, including terrorism and violent extremism," Blair concluded.
