Yang ‘looking’ at running for mayor of New York City

Entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Andrew Yang said he is “looking at” a possible run for mayor of New York in an interview with BuzzFeed News.

“You know, we’re looking at it,” Yang, who has recently become a CNN contributor since exiting the presidential race on Feb. 11, told the publication about a potential run.

“One of the things I’m most curious about is who are the other candidates in the race, and what the race would look like,” the Schenectady, N.Y., native told BuzzFeed.

“Because I tend to want to do something where I feel like I’m gonna have a big impact and add a lot of value, so if there’s someone who’s already running who would have a positive agenda that’s very aligned with mine — I’m not someone who is just driven by maximum political advantage. I wanna see how much value I can add,” he added.

New York will vote on its new mayor next November, with current Mayor Bill de Blasio ineligible for a third term.

During the interview, Yang also declined to say whether he would endorse former Vice President Joe Biden, who drew the endorsement of several of his former competitors in recent days, including former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas).

“Joe’s team reached out to me yesterday,” Yang told Buzzfeed. “At this point, I consider Joe a friend.”
